The Hip Hop Climate Conference & Concert seeks to unite Hip Hop culture through the 10th Element and Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) education by activating a new generation of engineers, climate advocates, and promoters of healthy living. 

Most people want to make our planet survivable, but how much more destruction needs to happen before sentiment matches action? What’s missing? The voices and creative ideas of people of color on the frontlines of the climate crisis are missing. And so are young people—who are more open to climate action than older generations, according to the latest research.

Our events are a wake-up call to close the gap between sentiment and action. We’re educating and inspiring the next generation of changemakers who have been creating new solutions to stop climate change. Our work is unique because we bridge two of the most powerful world events of the last 50 years that have captured sentiment and spurred action: the birth of Hip Hop and the global spike in carbon emissions.

By 2060, Black and Latine youth will comprise nearly half of all U.S. school-age children [1]. However, these students are severely underrepresented in technology industries, with more than half of Black and Latine people poised to be under-prepared for 86% of jobs by 2045 [2]. The Hip Hop Climate Conference & Concert will take a step towards altering this trajectory by inspiring the next generation of changemakers, breaking down barriers of entry to technical skill building opportunities, and bringing together culturally responsive role models and resources to underrepresented communities.

Leveraging Hip Hop, technology, and education, we will bring a global spotlight to the work of environmental activists, researchers, and educators to discover together the innovative solutions that will prevent our spiraling climate catastrophe.
